Carriera
Cresciuto a Brooklyn, i suoi genitori erano immigrati portoricani. Sin da piccolo si intravede la sua passione per la musica, frequenta i party e i club storici di New York, in particolare il Loft e il Paradise Garage, dove conosce dj Larry Levan e dove inizia a sentire quel nuovo genere di musica chiamato House. Comicia la sua esperienza come dj al Better Days a New York, all’ Ozone bar di Brooklyn e al Red Zone a Manhattan. Durante le sue serate, oltre a curare la selezione musicale, usando contemporaneamente 3 giradischi e una drum-machine, realizza remix dei dischi che suona.
Nel 1989 insieme a Frankie Knuckles, anche egli dj e remixer, fonda l’etichetta Def- Mix, che subito si occupa produzioni discografiche house. A breve si congiungono anche il dj Satoshi Tomiie ed Hector Romero. Una delle prime canzoni di Morales incinsa su questa etichetta fu “Find the Key of Your Life”: cantata da Cathy Dennis e prodotta per il soundtrack del film del 1991 “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II”. Nel 1993 pubblica il suo primo album “The Program”, che contiene i singoli di successo The Program, In de Ghetto e Gimme Luv. Nel 2004 esce l’album “2 Worlds Collide”, con le hit Here I Am, How Would U Feel, Feels Good, Better That You Leave.
Il suo più grande successo internazionale è stato Needin’ u del 1998 (basato sul campione della canzone del 1976 “Let Me Down Easy” dei Rare Pleasure).
Come remixer ha lavorato (tra gli altri) per: U2, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Jamiroquai, Björk, Pet Shop Boys, Diana Ross, Spice Girls, Aretha Franklin, Ce Ce Peniston.
