Novità per l’edizione 2011, in perfetta sintonia con le nuove strategie del Berklee College.
Le prime buone notizie sono :
1) Verrà aperto un nuovo corso di “song writing” dedicato a chi è interessato alla composizione di brani/canzoni (limitato a 25 studenti).
2) Per venire incontro alle vostre richieste sarà abbassato il numero degli iscitti, da 250 a 210, e di qualche unità anche per i corsi più affollati.
3) – Le lezioni di tecnica strumentale del mattino avranno una durata maggiore
– Ogni ensemble che si esibirà ai saggi finali avrà a disposizione 20 minuti invece dei 12 minuti come in passato. Vi parteciperanno anche gli allievi di “song writing” che avranno così modo di far ascoltare le loro composizioni.
– Sarà aumentato il numero dei/delle cantanti che si esibiranno nelle “solo performace”.
– Per poter realizzare tutto questo, i saggi cominceranno venerdì 15 luglio di mattina e si protrarranno fino al 17 domenica mattina, che tradizionalmente si concluderà con la cerimonia della consegna delle borse di studio.
4) Umbria Jazz (ne attendiamo conferma) inserirà nel programma ufficiale del festival (probabilmente il 15 e 16 luglio) due concerti con 4 tra i migliori ensembles e il Coro Gospel.
5) Vi consigliamo di tenervi periodicamente in contatto con il nostro sito per essere aggiornati su eventuali master class straordinarie, tenute da importanti musicisti
NUOVA MODALITA’ D’ISCRIZIONE :
1- Rispetto agli anni passati, la nuova procedura di iscrizione ai corsi Umbria Jazz Clinics, prevede una pre-audizione, che avverrà online seguendo le indicazioni qui riportate.
2- A partire dal 07 gennaio 2011 basterà collegarsi al seguente sito e procedere alla registrazione seguendo le istruzioni: https://apply.berklee.edu/secure/createaccount.aspx
3- Appena ricevuta la conferma della registrazione al Berklee College, sarai “guidato” su come inviare un brano contenente una tua breve esibizione (strumentale o vocale) con formato mp3. Un gruppo di esperti musicisti procederà all’ascolto della tua demo.
4- In breve tempo riceverai la risposta circa l’idoneità, o meno, a frequentare la Berklee Summer School at Umbria Jazz Clinics.
Ottenuta l’idoneità potrai iscriverti al corso di Umbria Jazz Clinics, Perugia 5-17 luglio 2011, seguendo le modalità di iscrizione riportate nelle Condizioni Generali alla voce Iscrizioni che troverai in questo sito
Rimarrà comunque la tradizionale audizione del primo giorno, che sarà utile per confermare la valutazione del mp3.

Dear Friends,
As we begin our 26th year at Umbria Jazz Festival, Berklee College and Umbria Jazz Clinics are planning some new improvements to their annual seminar in 2011. With an ever-growing enrollment and with limited time, faculty and facilities in Perugia, these changes are intended to reshape the event in order to attract the most deserving students and provide them with a two-week program that best helps them to advance their musical skills and understanding. Here are the changes that students can expect for the 2011 seminar:
1) A Songwriting Workshop within the Seminar to allow students the opportunity to study the craft of songwriting. Students will write and perform their original songs at end-of-the-seminar concerts.
(This workshop will be limited to 25 students.)
2) As requested, maximum student enrolments will be lowered to give students the opportunity to have a higher level of participation.
3) Each group performing at the end of course recital will have 20 minutes instead of 12 minutes as in previous years. Students taking the Songwriting Workshop will also participate, giving them the oportunity to have their compositions performed on stage.
The number of vocalists giving a “solo performance” will be increased
In order to include these changes the recitals will begin on Friday the 15th of July and continue until Sunday the 17th and conclude as always with the scholarship award ceremony.
4) (to be confirmed) An opportunity to perform on stage at UmbriaJazz Festival.
Five of the Seminar ensembles will be selected to be a part of the Festival’s concert offerings.
HOW TO ENROLL :
1) A new on-line application process to enable us to enroll the students with the best potential to achieve in this immersive program of musical study. The new application will require the submission of an mp3 file with a short example of the applicant’s individual performance and/or writing skills.
